Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device Review
The Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device appears to be a “gadget” that many people will find difficult to live without.
For starters just think about the weight you will save not having to pack your documents or reading material in your luggage. And nowadays with the airlines charging what they do for our luggage, to me this is an important consideration.
Imagine being on a plane and being able to take out your Kindle and review documents for upcoming meetings (not having to spread everything out all over your lap and the person in the seat next to you), read your paper or enjoy your favorite book. Kindle has a built in PDF reader. It gives you the capability to zoom into any area of your PDF document up to 300% to easily view the areas of small print. This will be welcomed by all of us with “aging eyesight!”
Kindle DX has eight adjustable font sizes to suit your reading preference. Now all of your books can be in large print. You can also choose if you want to read in portrait or landscape mode
With all of the technical things in our lives, a longer battery life is really appreciated. This Kindle has a one week battery life on a charge with the Kindle turned on, and you can read for two weeks if the wireless is turned off. When it comes time to charge your Kindle it will easily be done with the U.S. power adapter and a micro-USB cable from a computer port. The US power adapter supports voltages 100V-240V.
If you find yourself without something to read this problem can be solved in as little as 60 seconds. Whispernet utilizes Amazon’s optimized technology plus a high-speed data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover and download content on the go. Your books and periodicals are delivered to your Kindle in less than 60 seconds. Unlike Wi-Fi you do not have to hunt for a hotspot.
I would like to note that even if you are traveling around the world, you will still be able to get books in under 60 seconds! You can download books in over 100 countries. You will be able to stay in touch with news from home and have your newspaper delivered directly to your Kindle. You will never feel out of the loop!
If you have purchased books from the Kindle book library at Amazon you can re-download these books available in your library for free.
With the Kindle you will not have any monthly wireless bills. Amazon pays for Kindle DX’s wireless connectivity so you will not see a monthly wireless bill. That is a real plus. There is no wireless setup. You are ready to shop, purchase and read right out of the box.
If you are like me, you usually find yourself reading with a higher or a pen to make notes in the book or document you are reading. By using the Kindle DX’s QWERTY keyboard you can add annotations to text and because it is in digital format you can edit, delete and export your notes. Using the 5-way controller you can even clip key passages and bookmark pages for future use. If you forget where you left off, worry not, Kindle DX remembers for you and always opens to the last page you read.
Each Kindle has a unique and customizable e-mail address. You can set your unique email address on your “Manage Your Kindle” page. This allows you and your approved contacts to send Word, PDF documents, and pictures to your Kindle via Whispernet for a small fee. Kindle supports wireless delivery of unprotected Microsoft Word (DOC, DOCX), PDF, HTML, TXT, RTF, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, PRC and MOBI files.
If you enjoy audio books, you can download more than 60,000 audio titles from Audible.com. As audio books are larger in size you will need to read up on how these are downloaded to your PC and then transferred to the Kindle DX. You can either listen to your books via Kindle DX’s speakers or plug in your headphones for private listening.
If you are a die hard Twitter or Facebook user, Kindle DX has even taken this into consideration. You will be able to tweet or post about all the great books and quotes you encounter.
Another of the many new features you will find on your Kindle DX is the ability to lock your Kindle and password protect it when you are not using it.
A few last features is the “Read-to-Me” function. With its Text-to-Speech feature the Kindle DX can read books, blogs, magazines and newspapers out loud to you. So when your eyes get tired, there is no need to stop. And you can switch back and forth between the reading and listening modes and Kindle DX will never lose your place!
Transfer your MP-3 files to your Kindle DX and play them as background music for when you are reading.
I do not know about you, but I am ready to click on over to Amazon.com and order my Kindle DX. It is available July 7th, 2010. You can pre-order it before then.
